Mardi Gras Parade

Feb 27, 2022 | Asheville, NC

We went to Biscuit Head for breakfast. In the restaurant they had cat-centric art everywhere and their menu informed us that in the South a "cat head biscuit", of which they purport to serve here, is one that is large enough to resemble the size of a cat's head. Brian's was definitely accurate to this measure, but Erika was forced to get the gluten-free biscuit since that one is also vegan, and it was decidedly not cat-like in any way. She also had to get the coconut sweet potato gravy since it was the only one they had that was vegan, and it was not exactly a hit with her, just as you might have guessed. Brian liked all his food though! And we liked their hot sauces enough to pick up a couple to go.

In the afternoon the Mardi Gras parade marched through downtown Asheville so we went up there to watch. We had a pint of beer each from Green Man brewery while we watched, then we wandered down the street and found a distillery called Chemist Spirits that had an olde-timey vibe. Once again we wandered and found a sake brewery called Ben's Tune-up which we theorized got its name by simply adopting the one used by the previous business in their building, likely an auto shop. We weren't even planning on eating there, but we're glad we did because their blackened brussel sprouts appetizer and the vegan beef bowl were some of the favorite items we've eaten on our whole trip.
